Barley Homes and Havebury join forces to deliver affordable houses in Mildenhall
Barley Homes and local registered housing provider, Havebury are working together to deliver affordable homes at College Heath Road, Mildenhall.
This partnership demonstrates the commitment of both organisations to maximise affordable housing for the community as it ensures 100 per cent of the homes on this development will be a mix of social, affordable and shared ownership.
The site was the home to the former Forest Heath District Council Offices, Suffolk County Council library service and NHS clinic. Following the relocation of these services to the Mildenhall Hub, the buildings were demolished, and the site has been vacant since.
Following pre-application discussions with the local planning authority Havebury will be submitting a planning application imminently.
Cllr Richard O’Driscoll, Cabinet Member for Housing at West Suffolk Council and Chair of the Barley Homes Shareholder Advisory Group, said: “We have a very positive partnership with Havebury. In this instance Barley Homes is working as a land provider to enable the delivery of affordable, available and decent homes in West Suffolk.
“Without initiatives like this, this development might not otherwise come forward to provide the levels of quality housing and the variety of homes local communities need to thrive.
“It also provides an income back to West Suffolk Council to help support essential public services.”
A Barley Homes spokesperson said: “We are delighted to be working with Havebury on this exciting housing scheme. A lot of work has gone into bringing this site forward to provide the right kind of much needed homes in Mildenhall and we are eager to see it come to fruition.”
Kate Duval, Senior Project Manager at Havebury, said: “We’re pleased to be working with West Suffolk Council to deliver much needed affordable housing in Mildenhall. We’re working with our consultants and Barley Homes to submit a planning application soon”.
